Petroglyphs

According to archaeologists, some of the petroglyphs in Averøy are among the oldest in all of the county.

On Søbstadklubben you can see pictures cut out in stone, some of which are easy to understand what they are supposed to portray. To mention some, you can spot whales, boats and birds. The animal acts as a multifunctional symbol. In addition to representing hunting and food they are also a presentation of the community and beliefs held within.

Petroglyphs are the nerves of life cut into stone. The field containing cut-outs in stone at Søbstad is adorned with 17 signs/symbols and was discovered 30 years ago.
